Body pH and alkalinity are vital topics to understand for the most optimal health possible. After all, keeping your body alkaline has profound effects on the health of your cells.

The pH scale is a logarithmic scale first proposed by S.P.L Sorensen, a Dane, in 1909 to identify the concentration of hydrogen ions (H+) and hydroxide ions (OH -) in a liquid solution. The term pH stands “potential hydrogen.”

In liquids, the process uses two types of litmus paper, red and blue. Each is specially coated with a dye that changes color in the presence of acids.

Red litmus paper will turn blue in the presence of acid while blue litmus paper will turn red. But, in humans, we can measure pH in a few different ways.

The pH of blood which requires lab testing or, using a yellow litmus paper which turns blue with acid and green with alkalinity of the saliva or of the urine. Blood pH is the only true accurate value.

Alkalinity in Your Diet

An alkaline diet’s premise is to keep the body at a neutral pH or alkaline. Having a pH too high or low creates an opportunity for opportunistic bacteria to gain a foothold and foster the perfect environment for cancerous cells.

Alkalizing foods and water bring the body back to balance. These vitamins, minerals, or herbs infuse the body with new energy, vitality, and better health. While I will share some common knowledge about your pH, I will also share something you might not know. Foods aren’t your only solution for an alkaline body.

pH: What You Might Not Know

Because your body is electric, let’s look at pH from a scientific perspective rather than from the acid/alkaline perspective you may know.

If you think of a battery with a positive and negative pole, neutral pH, typically 7.3 or 7.4, would be in the middle. Dr. Jerry Tennant, author of HEALING IS VOLTAGE explains it this way.

From the perspective of your electric body, 7.4 is ideal for making and keeping your cells healthy. When pH is closer to acid, the environment becomes one of “low voltage.”

Anything that runs on electricity cannot generate adequate power when there is low voltage. While being alkaline is good, being too high above neutral is not good either.

What Makes a Cell Work? – ELECTRICITY

The first concept to understand is that at -3 to 35 millivolts (acid) allows cancer to thrive – -6.5 on the pH scale. RED or BROWN on the batter chart above.

Healthy cells run on 20 millivolts, and new cells begin to form at 25 millivolts, which is equivalent to about 7.4 to 8 on the pH scale. In essence, your alkaline diet and any practices that make electricity flow and “raise your voltage” are donating electrons, making your cells more alkaline.

Understanding Free Radicals

Allow me to help you understand the function of antioxidants from a new perspective. It is common knowledge that
antioxidants like vitamin C or glutathione fight free radicals but, what exactly is a free radical and how does that relate to pH?

A free radical is an ELECTRON STEALER that moves you into a more acid state, whereas an antioxidant is an electron donor that moves you toward more alkaline.

While you may not have looked at pH in the way I describe, these are facts you can find in the medical literature. Now, let’s dig deeper. When you become ravaged with free radicals from any source, you lose electrons, thus becoming more acid. Think of this as “negative electron donor status.”

As you can see, understanding the value of alkaline pH increases by virtue of this explanation.

The key is to get in a “positive electron donor status’ mode.

Why Grounding Makes You Alkaline

Grounding is an excellent example of being positive electron donor status. As you uptake electrons from the earth, you are increasing your pH. Simultaneously, you are discharging protons – electron stealers.

Grounding takes electrons from the ground and allows them to flow where needed, similar to filling your gas tank with gas; you are filling your body with electrons.

Alkaline diets have the potential to MOVE MORE ELECTRICITY and create more life force.

Your Alkaline-Acid Base Balance and Foods

From 7.45 to 14 – we will call this electron donor mode or, alkaline. Also, you must understand the function of antioxidants from a new perspective.

You should consume alkaline foods to provide nutrients the body needs to neutralize acids and toxins in the blood, lymph, tissues, and cells. Your body will tightly regulate the process, but alkaline foods support the mission.

When pH balance inside your body is “out of balance,” your body tries to correct that sensitive pH balance. For example, if you consume carbonated beverages with your meal, your body and its innate wisdom will draw calcium from your bones. Calcium will buffer the acid because minerals are…ALKALINE.

Calcium is very alkaline. Sugar, on the other hand, is quite acid. Other high acid foods (according to the traditional acid ash hypothesis) are meat, poultry, cheese, fish, eggs, and grains. We need these foods in small quantities.

pH Myth Busted

The myth that citrus fruits are acid contradicts the truth that citrus fruits have an alkaline ash.

Transitioning to a more alkaline healthy diet requires a shift in attitude towards food. The critical point to remember is that small changes go a long way. Add more alkaline foods to your diet gradually. Ideally, your diet should be about 75% alkaline ash foods in a raw state.

7 Ways to Keep pH balanced

1) Reduce the consumption of sugar and products made from sugar, including soda pop, pies, ice cream, jello, jams & jellies, artificial juices, puddings, doughnuts, corn syrups, chewing gum, sweetened drinks, cookies, breakfast cereals, gluten free flours, liqueurs, mixed drinks, and sports drinks.

2) Avoid processed foods and condiments, including ketchup, salad dressings, pickles, luncheon meats, canned fruits, bread, relish, cheese dips, crackers, canned soups, hot dogs, sausages, sweetened yogurt.

3) Avoid cooking and heating foods and drinks in the microwave.

4) Avoid or limit fried foods.

5) Increase your consumption of raw vegetables and raw fresh fruits (without sugar). You should include raw vegetables in every meal. Juicing veggies is good, but adding high sugar fruits detract from those benefits.

If your lunches usually consist of sandwiches, try to substitute it with a lettuce roll-up.

6) Grains like millet, lentils, wild rice, quinoa, spelt, Kamut, and brown rice are more alkaline choices than wheat.

7) Don’t forget to hydrate. Half of your body weight in ounces of good quality water each day. Add liquid minerals to increase the quality of water. Minerals are alkaline, and by adding liquid drops to your water, you will further increase alkalinity.

Maintaining Proper Stomach Acid

While taking a teaspoon of baking soda is a fast and effective way to lower acidity overall, take care not to add baking soda near mealtime. Stomach acid has a pH of about zero. Baking soda will increase alkalinity or, RAISE pH in your stomach. When stomach pH gets too alkaline, digestion becomes difficult.

Use this great hack only in-between meals.
